Pitt Loses a Wild One to Notre Dame

Last week I was laughed at in my own home when I said Pitt was going to beat Notre Dame. Ray Graham was running all over the vaunted ND defense and Pitt took a 20 - 3 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter and I was shouting "Who's laughing now?" I was riding high until one play. A phantom pass interference call against Pitt on a fourth down play. The call was terrible and Notre Dame scored on the next play. I knew then how game would end. How did I know well I'm a Pitt fan. I have seen the movie before. Pitt does not know how to win close games especially big games.

Pitt had several chances in overtime and even had a 33 yard fg to win the game. Kevin Harper missed it right. Pitt was an awful 1-12 on 3rd downs and had absolutely no offense in the fourth quarter and overtime. Tino Sunseri plays awful with the game on the line. The defense played well enough to win but lack of depth on the line and at linebacker left the unit gassed at the end.

Pitt has improved vastly since the season began. There is reason to be optimistic about the future with Paul Chryst. Pitt needs to finish strong in their final three games and in recruiting. If they play like they did in the first three quarters they will.
