Penguins are Back!

With the NHL lockout over and hockey back the city of Pittsburgh is ready to kick off the hockey season. The Penguins will open the season on Saturday against the hated Flyers in Philadelphia. The Penguins will look to erase the embarrassment of last seasons 1st round exit. The season has been shorten to a 48 game schedule. The Penguins signing of Tomas Vokoun will be big for this team. With games being played almost every other day having two quality goaltenders will be critical to success. Vokoun can also push Fleury to play better in net or he may lose the starting role.

The lines for the opening game should look like this:

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis
Neal-Malkin-Kennedy
Cooke-Sutter-Jefferey
Glass-Vitale-Adams

The defense should look like this:

Letang-Martin
Niskanen-Orpik
Engelland-Lovejoy

The top Power Play unit will be

Malkin-Crosby-Neal-Letang-Kunitz

I would like to see Eric Tangradi, Beau Bennet, and Simon Despres get a look. The Penguins have a loads of young talent on defense and it may be time to work them into the rotation.

It will be interesting to see how Brandon Sutter fills in the role of Jordan Stahl as the 3rd line center. While Sutter is not as talented as Stahl he is more of a 3rd line center and should embrace his role on the team. Stahl is a top line, or at least top two line guy.
